Bruce NAUMAN

(born in 1941; lives in Pasadena) has created art as autobiographical record, translating his signature into neon and casting parts of his body in fiberglas. More recently this record has been preserved on film only. One work shows the artist walking back and forth in his studio, repeating the same note on his violin. For this exhibition Nauman instructed a museum staff member to hold the telephone and repeat one movement in front of a video recorder. This movement -a jump- was continued until the tape ran out. During the exhibition the videotape is replayed in the exact location where the action was recordered.

(né en 1941; vit à Pasadena) a créé de l’art comme enregistrement autobiographique, traduisant sa signature en néon et moulant des parties de son corps en fibres de verre. Plus récemment ces enregistrements ont été conservés sur film uniquement. Un de ces travaux montre l’artiste marchant en va-et-vient dans son studio, répétant la même note de violon. Pour cette exposition, Nauman a donné pour instruction à un membre du musée de tenir le téléphone et de répéter un mouvement face à une caméra vidéo. Ce mouvement – un saut – a été répété jusqu’à ce que la bobine soit terminée. Pendant l’exposition, la bande vidéo est diffusée en boucle à l’endroit exact où l’action a été enregistrée.
